Dr. Gerhard Schabhüser

Dr. Gerhard Schabhüser took up his new position as vice president of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) on 1. January 2017. Born in Warendorf, Germany, Dr. Gerhard Schabhüser graduated from the University of Münster with a degree in Mathematics. He obtained a doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Münster and the University of Hagen. In November 1991 he joined the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Initially being responsible for the evaluation and development of cryptographic algorithms he later held different leading positions within BSI,
e.g. as head of the department Crypto-Technology from 2005-2016. He has over 25 years of cryptology, information security implementation and oversight experience.
